Capcom revealing Wii Resident Evil: Code Veronica March 12?

What we heard: Here's what's clear: On March 12, Capcom plans to make at least one game announcement as part of its Resident Evil 5 launch event in San Francisco. The publisher revealed as much on its official blog, saying, "To top it all off, there will be new game announcements, stage shows, and Resident Evil activities all through out the night." (Emphasis added.) So what's Capcom got up its sleeves? Enter Matt Dahlgren, associate product-marketing manager at Capcom. On Friday, Dahlgren gave an interview to Canadian gaming blog Game Focus as part of Capcom's buildup to Resident Evil 5's launch this week. In the process, he made two independent statements that, when taken together, may indicate that the publisher is working on a game set in the Resident Evil: Code Veronica continuum for the Wii.

Godfather II golden

Shortly after it reported dismal holiday earnings last month, Electronic Arts finally dated Godfather II after a high-profile delay. The EA Redwood Shores-developed game will simultaneously launch on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on April 7 in North America and April 10 in Europe. It is rated M for Mature by the ESRB in the US, and bears an 18+ PEGI rating across the Atlantic. Thug Life! Based on both Francis Ford Coppola's eponymous 1974 film and Mario Puzo's original Godfather novel, the Godfather II casts players as an associate of Don Michael Corleone on the eve of the Cuban Revolution. As the game progresses, players will themselves becoming bosses, organizing criminal enterprises, and building up their own army of thugs. As outlined in GameSpot's recent preview, when things get violent, the game shifts from a top-down strategic view to the street level, where Grand Theft Auto-style open-world armed havoc ensues.

Burn Zombie Burn lumbers onto PSN March 26

No matter how many bullets get pumped into a zombie, the darn things have a tendency to not stay dead. Case in point: Try as players might to eradicate the undead vermin in Capcom's Resident Evil 5 later this week, the hordes are already planning a reunion tour later this month, courtesy of Kuju Entertainment's downloadable game shop Doublesix. The Guildford, UK-based studio announced today that Burn Zombie Burn will be available for the PlayStation Network in the US and Europe on March 26. Pricing information has not yet been revealed.

US PC Charts Feb. 22-28: Dawn of War II still on top

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II has been on a tear of late, scoring top billing in not just the US' PC charts in its opening week, but also those across the globe. In the US at least, THQ and Relic Entertainment's far-future sci-fi real-time strategy game continued to sell well during its second week on the market, with the NPD Group reporting today that Dawn of War II led its PC sales charts for the second week in a row. In fact, February 21-February 28 looks very much the same as the week prior. Mimicking the mid-February period, World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, The Sims 2 Double Deluxe, and The Sims 2 Deluxe slotted in descending order behind Dawn of War II. Also-returning favorites World of Warcraft, the WOW Battle Chest, and Spore swapped positions with one another, falling in respective fifth, sixth, and seventh positions.

id not Rage-ing in '09

Until it issues a definitive proclamation, id Software traditionally responds to inquiries about a game's release date with the mantra "When it's done." However, this past weekend saw an exception to that rule when Todd Hollenshead let slip that the Doom developer's upcoming game Rage won't arrive in 2009. "2010?! But I'm bloodthirsty now!" "No, it won't be out this year," the id CEO stated flatly in a GameTrailers interview posted last Friday. The news comes as a blow to those anticipating Rage, which was first shown to the public at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference in 2007. In development for the Mac, PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, the not-quite-open-world action game will let players drive around a postapocalyptic hellscape, Road Warrior-style.
